1. Do you like shopping?
“It depends on what I’m shopping for, to be honest. I can’t stand shopping for clothes because I’m quite indecisive and end up trying on the same shirt three times. But I really enjoy browsing in bookshops – I could easily spend a whole afternoon there without buying anything.”
Bản band 5.5 để so sánh: “Yes, I like shopping. I usually go to shopping with my friends. It is very fun and relax.” → Ngắn, có lỗi (go to shopping → go shopping; relax → relaxing), không có lý do cụ thể.
2. Where do you usually go shopping?
“Mostly online, if I’m honest. For everyday things like toiletries or snacks, I just order them through an app and they turn up at my door the next day. The only exception is fresh food – my mum and I still go to the local market at the weekend, because you can pick out exactly what you want.”
Bản band 5.5 để so sánh: “I usually shopping online because it is convenient. I buy many things online, for example clothes and food.” → Thiếu động từ chính (I usually shop), lặp buy, ví dụ chung chung.
3. Do you prefer shopping alone or with other people?
“Alone, definitely, at least for anything that requires a decision. When I go with friends, I tend to get talked into buying things I don’t really need. That said, window-shopping with friends is fun – it’s more about chatting than actually buying.”
4. Have you ever bought something you later regretted?
“Yes, more than once! The most memorable was a pricey smartwatch I bought on impulse during a flash sale. I wore it for about two weeks and then it just sat in a drawer. Since then, I’ve had a rule: if I still want something after a week, I’ll buy it.”
5. Has the way people shop in your country changed in recent years?
“Quite dramatically. A decade ago, most people in Vietnam shopped at traditional markets or small family-run stores. Now e-commerce platforms and livestream selling are huge, especially among young people. Even my grandparents have started ordering things online, which I never would have expected.”
Part 3 – Shopping and consumerism: câu hỏi và trả lời mẫu
1. Why do people often buy things they don’t need?
“I think there are a couple of reasons. The most obvious one is marketing. Companies are extremely good at creating a sense of urgency – things like limited-time discounts or ‘only three left in stock’ – which pushes people to buy on impulse. Another reason is social pressure. When everyone around you has the latest phone, it’s easy to feel that you’re falling behind if you don’t upgrade too. And for some people, shopping is simply a way to cheer themselves up after a stressful day, so the act of buying matters more than the item itself.”
2. Do you think online shopping will completely replace physical stores?
“I doubt it, at least not completely. Online shopping is clearly more convenient for routine purchases, and it has taken a huge share of the market. However, there are some things people still want to see and touch before buying, such as furniture, or clothes they want to try on. So I think physical stores will survive, but their role will change – they’ll become places for experiences, like testing products or getting advice, rather than just places to pick things up.”
Bản band 5.5 để so sánh: “No, I don’t think so. Because some people like to go to the shop. They want to see the product. But online shopping is more and more popular.” → Có ý đúng nhưng câu rời rạc, mở đầu bằng Because như một câu độc lập, không phát triển được ý về tương lai.
3. How does advertising influence young people’s shopping habits?
“Quite strongly, I’d say, and in a more subtle way than before. Young people today don’t just see traditional ads; they follow influencers who promote products as if they were personal recommendations. Because teenagers often trust these influencers, they may not even realise they’re being advertised to. On the positive side, this can introduce them to useful products, but it can also encourage them to spend beyond their means.”
4. Is it a problem that small, family-run shops are disappearing?
“To some extent, yes. Small shops are part of a neighbourhood’s character, and the owners often know their customers personally, which creates a sense of community you don’t get in a supermarket. On the other hand, large chains usually offer lower prices and more consistent quality, which benefits consumers. So I think the ideal situation is a balance, perhaps with local authorities supporting small businesses through lower rents or tax breaks.”
Phân tích theo 4 tiêu chí chấm Speaking
- Fluency and Coherence: Part 1 trả lời thẳng rồi mở rộng (It depends… But…). Part 3 có khung rõ: quan điểm → lý do 1 → lý do 2 → kết (The most obvious one is… Another reason is… So I think…).
- Lexical Resource: dùng cụm tự nhiên thay vì lặp buy: browse, window-shopping, on impulse, get talked into, spend beyond their means. Có từ đúng ngữ cảnh: livestream selling, e-commerce platforms, family-run.
- Grammatical Range and Accuracy: có câu điều kiện (if I still want something…), mệnh đề quan hệ (which creates a sense of community), bị động (they’re being advertised to), hiện tại hoàn thành (have started ordering).
- Pronunciation: chú ý trọng âm IMpulse, indeCIsive, conSUMer, nối âm turn up /tɜː.nʌp/; nhấn mạnh từ mang ý chính như definitely, dramatically.
